AK Consulting – Mobis Case Study
The Client – Mobis Parts Australia Pty Ltd
Mobis Parts Australia Pty Ltd imports and distributes auto parts for Kia and Hyundai nationally. The company despatches 4000-5000 parts per day. This equates to an average of 600 per hour, but at times the quantity reaches 1000 per hour. Their major warehouse processes revolve around receiving and storing stock, picking, packing, putting away and despatching parts.
With such a high volume of parts flowing into and out of the warehouse, and cut-off times for morning and afternoon despatches, even small inefficiencies in the process can have a major impact on productivity and on the capacity of Mobis to manage the volume.
The Challenges
At the time Mobis engaged AK Consulting to assist, the processes had become cumbersome under the high volumes. Invoices and receiving dockets had to be sent to the warehouse office for processing. Mobis needed an updated system that was highly automated, would minimise the manual work required, and speed up the entire process.
The Outcome
AK Consulting assessed the Mobis processes and worked with the in-house Mobis team to develop a suitable automated warehouse solution. A scanning system was implemented and new processes were designed. Now, Mobis workers use an RF Gun (scanner) to record activities such as stock arrivals, picked parts, and despatches. Information is available in real time, reducing delays and minimising the manual work involved in processing documentation. The new system accurately tracks productivity trends, allowing Mobis to quickly identify emerging issues.

The Partnership Continued
As a result of the successful relationship between AK Consulting and Mobis, AK Consulting has continued to assist Mobis with their IT strategy, and now plays a vital role in supporting the day to day requirements of the business.
AK Consulting assisted the Mobis IT team to roll out the Mobis Global ERP system (called AMOS) in Australia. This required interfaces with various sub-systems, and the migration of data from old systems. When Mobis acquired spare part business from Hyundai and later from Kia, AK Consulting assisted in developing the required interfaces between the AMOS system, and the systems of Hyundai and Kia, resulting in the successful migration of the spare parts business to Mobis.
